I like differences of opinion. I learn a lot from people with different opinions.
But name calling & outright ignorance, I cannot stand.
On "The View" today, which I just happen to catch by chance, during a discussion about what Barack Obama's girls might do to continue their schooling, Joy Behar suggested they be schooled "in the White House." Elizabeth Hasselbeck, believing that Joy was referring to homeschooling, asked her if homeschooling is what she meant. To which, Joy replied something to effect of, "Oh no, not that. Homeschool kids are demented." Granted, I don't remember the exact quote... but I hung on that word demented. THAT'S the word she used.
Behar went on to clarify that she believed the Obama's girls should be schooled in the White House with other children brought in to be schooled with them.
I hope she apologizes for her ignorant, stereotypical, derogatory comment. Right now I'm just so shocked & angry that I can't think of any other commentary on the situation......

I saw The View today and remember Joy saying that. After reading your message I searched for that particular segment of The View that you mentioned and found it on the ABC website. Here's what was said:
Elisabeth: I'm all for home schooling. I think it's actually a good thing.
Joy: A lot of them are demented when they're home schooled.
Of course Joy was making "Joy faces" the whole time. I have never liked Joy very much in the first place, but she has turned into a bitter angry woman who seems to crave attention from the media. Maybe she's trying to be like Rosie O'Donnell?? Oh well.
Anyway, you can see the home school segment if you go here and click on the second to the left thumbnail with the caption "View on Obama's Daughtes." It's about 4 minutes long.

Joy Behar was an exhibition of ignorance and division. Just before her derogatory comments on home schooled kids she made a statement about the nation's public school system being full of a lot of crazy people and questioned whether the public school system would be good for the Obama children. She does not have the ability to form an opinion that has any merit or continuity. Her only focus is to be heard, not to make informed, intelligent commentary.

There are a lot of things that people could judge and condemn about homeschooling--things which we've weighed and found to be worth the risk.
But Joy Behar's comments are only bigoted and ignorant.
She should not have access to such a powerful forum--her opinions are not provocative, but only show her to be small minded. ABC should be embarrassed.

Tolerance of people is what is needed. But that's not what we get from Joy Behar. I tolerate people; and so I'll be kind to Ms. Behar. Her comments are from ignorance and bias from her public school teaching days in California. She should apologize, however. This kind of name calling is unacceptable in any forum and represents a new low for "The View."
